getting to Fort Lauderdale

On Friday morning, we set out for Fort Lauderdale in the Mazda, to make it there by 5 to check into the hotel, change, then go to the rehearsal dinner. What we didn't factor in, of course, was the ability of the air conditioning compressor to malfunction further, which caused us to just make the dinner. The time there was worth it, however.

When we were about to pull on to I-75, there was burnt hair-smelling smoke emanating from the compressor pulley, so we pulled over. After some conversations with my ever-helpful father-in-law and the guy from a car place (if I say the name, he gets fired ...), we decided to buy a box cutter and cut the belt that drives both the compressor (smoking/burning), and the power steering (not even malfunctioning). There was only 1 belt, so they both had to go [top picture].

Before we left, however, the mechanic gave us some powerful advice about getting to China:

"Don't dig a hole, fly in a plane"

Two hours after our original leave time, we were on the road. Driving a car without power steering, that was designed to have power steering, takes quite a bit of muscle, hence the driving gloves [picture 2].

We ended up having a great time all weekend, especially hanging out with friend we were surprised to see: Steve, Sam, Megan, Didi. Tim and Brittany were studs, and looked like they were made to put on a great party [picture 3] and have a wonderful life together. All the best!

P.S. I started a Picasa album for our pictures. And below is a test video:
