We have officially been invited to go to P.R. China on July 1st (leave for training on June 28th)! We have accepted the invitation, and are now working on passport applications (even if we already have them), visa applications, aspiration statements, and updated resumes.
After having considered all of the implications of this choice, we decided to take it. It was not our first choice, as our preferences were "warm climate," but it does offer many benefits, such as living in a sizable population and staying within academia. Some implications were discovered after accepting, but those, at this point, are unavoidable. So, I will keep updating this as our progress continues.
As of right now, the plans are to give away lots of our belongings and put the rest in storage, as well as leave the dog with my parents, sell the car, and put critical things into a safety deposit box. This list will grow exponentially, but those are the big picture plans.
