Right now I am at work watching the world cup and formatting figures for my thesis. You would be surprised how good you can make a graph look by making the axes easier to read. The real reason I am updating is that we have been medically deferred from continuing our process with the Peace Corps at this point.
We got two letters in the mail on the same day last week. One said congratulations you are nominated! You will receive a Medical Kit, and here is a Peace Corps click pen and a book of stories. The other letter said that because Nick checked 'no' on the Health Review Form (that accompanied the online application) to the question of 3 years alcohol sobriety after abuse, that we cannot go further until that deadline.
This is so disappointing. First, it will put us in a squeeze for time, should we receive all the forms at the 3-year mark (Feb. 13th, 2007). We might not have time to be invited to Asia for TEFL June 2007, and all our expectations about location and time could change. Second, things like this drag us back into the past, which we have worked so hard to overcome. I want to invite the placement officers down to meet us or something, so that we can show them how ready and willing we are, as well as healthy people. They can even meet the Rugendinho.
Anyway, we have to figure out how to sit tight until February. I have always planned for some time in the future, when I will have set everything up, including job and house and everything. I have just realized that this sort of gap time will be the beginning of that time - I won't be in school, but I won't have set everything up :) I will have to enjoy life as it is right now. I am looking foward to it.

Hey! I'm sorry to hear you two have been deferred. But, at least you have a rough date that you will leave.
ReplyDeleteI hope things don't change so much that you decide not to go. It's a great experience doing PC as a couple -well, so far anyhow. We've been here for a month and we've both had that day where if we were sinlge we'd most likely have ET'd, but being able to talk about it has kept us here!
